Kia Sees Record EV Sales In The U.S

Kia just recorded its best month of sales for its EVs in the United States. The South Korean automaker has made tremendous strides with its line of electric vehicles. Powerful and versatile models like the latest Kia EV9 have attracted consumers turning them toward EVs. While many other automakers have struggled to get consumers to switch to EVs, Kia is hitting all the right marks. Other EVs like the Kia EV6 and Niro EV have also gained traction as their capability and reliability surpass competitors. Just last year in 2023 Kia sold nearly 32,000 fully electric vehicles. Halfway through 2024, the automaker is totaling close to 16,000 EV sales. These numbers demonstrate an increased interest in EVs but we’ll take a closer look at Kia’s EV lineup to see why consumers are leaning toward the South Korean automaker.  

Kia Hits Record EV Sales

Kia just posted a record number of EV sales in the United States. The South Korean automaker saw a larger increase in its electric vehicle sales compared to last year. This is telling of the direction consumers are heading given that 2024 is only halfway through. Kia has seemingly enveloped EV customers thanks to its impressive lineup. Models like the EV6, Niro, and the latest EV9 have seen increases in sales. The breakdown is as follows: the EV9 totals 5,500 units, the EV6 totals 6,100 units, and the Niro totals 4,500 units. A reason for the growth stems from the debut of the EV9 which has taken over the EV segment. About its sales, vice president of Kia America Eric Watson said, 

“The impressive sales momentum generated by Kia’s EV and electrified models in the first quarter continued to accelerate in April with best-ever EV and SUV performance,” said Eric Watson. He continued, “Kia continues to capture new customers and retain brand loyalists by offering consumers world-class ICE, hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and fully electric choices.”

The 2024 Kia EV9 starts at an MSRP of $54,900 (plus destination fee). The family-sized SUV distinguishes itself with its impressive performance, capability, and unique design. As one of the few three-row EVs available, the EV9 offers families an innovative SUV with advanced features and technology. Its exterior is sleek yet rugged while inside, owners find a spacious cabin with ample space for passengers and cargo. The Kia EV9 offers up to 304 miles of range and can tow up to 5,000 pounds. The three-row SUV also boasts a 0 to 60 mph time of just 4.5 seconds with its dual-motor setup which delivers 379 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque. While the Kia EV6 and Kia Niro offer similar capability and versatility, the EV9 is a fresh breath of air with its unique design and innovation.
