A Look At The 2025 Kia Sorento PHEV
The 2025 Kia Sorento PHEV arrives as an improved version of the Sorento. The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) Sorento adds efficiency and capability allowing owners to get more from their vehicle. Kia has provided the 2025 Sorento with a new refresh that updates the three-row SUV inside and out. Kia’s EV lineup has grown consistently with new models like the EV9 and EV3 attracting more and more attention. While EVs have been a priority to many automakers including Kia, the Sorento PHEV finds that balance between an ICE and a fully electric vehicle. The Sorento proves reliable and highly capable ensuring owners can make use of both a battery and a combustion engine. For those wanting to take advantage of EVs without full commitment, the 2025 Kia Sorento proves a good first step. We’ll take a closer look at the three-row SUV and see what consumers can expect.
What To Expect From The 2025 Kia Sorento PHEV
The 2025 Kia Sorento PHEV makes improvements to the non-hybrid version. For one, owners have the option between a fully dedicated plug-in hybrid setup (PHEV) or a traditional hybrid setup. With the PHEV Sorento, the three-row SUV will make use of an electric battery that combines with the engine. Owners can drive using only the battery until it drains, then switch to the engine. With a traditional hybrid setup, owners would only make use of the electric battery at low speeds, for example on local roads or through cities. Comparatively, the PHEV sees 79 MPGe which equates to 32 miles of battery-only driving. The hybrid setup increases the fuel economy of the Sorento to 36 mpg in the city and 36 mph on the highway.
Aside from the extra range, the 2025 Kia Sorento PHEV sees an increase in overall performance. With the PHEV setup, an 11.8-kWh battery pack provides the three-row SUV with 261 horsepower. Compared to the hybrid’s 227 horsepower, the PHEV offers greater capability. The PHEV version also comes standard with all-wheel drive. Both versions handle well and utilize a 6-speed automatic transmission. While consumers shouldn’t expect a high performer, the Sorento does see a 0 to 60 time of 7.6 seconds. There’s also a towing rating of 2,000 pounds.
Inside the 2025 Sorento, owners will find new styling in the way of a larger digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen. The three-row SUV features quality materials throughout the cabin which are complemented by ambient lighting. For space, the three-row SUV offers seating for up to seven passengers. In terms of storage capacity, there is 75.5 cubic feet of cargo room behind the first row and 40 cubic feet of space behind the second row. There’s also a panoramic sunroof which adds to the distinct style of the Sorento. As for safety, the 2025 Sorento features blind spot monitoring and forward collision avoidance. A 12.3-inch touchscreen serves as the infotainment system and a 360-degree surround-view camera provides drivers with increased visibility. The PHEV version of the 2025 Kia Sorento starts at an MSRP of $46,890 (plus destination fee) while the traditional hybrid version starts at an MSRP of $38,690 (plus destination fee). Both versions of the 2025 Sorento have their benefits so consumers will have to consider their driving habits and whether extra mileage would help. Either way, the three-row SUV is a good introduction to hybrids and EVs.
